Oct. 5th, 2012:
My name is Wendy. I created Canada Jam–a free Canadian online radio station–for a few reasons. I grew up listening to Canadian music on the radio. I loved it. Then, I became a music journalist and got the chance to interview a lot of Canadian acts and see a lot of great concerts. Immersing myself in the music scene made me appreciate Canadian music that much more.
Over the years, I’ve looked for a station that exclusively played Canadian music but could never find one. Canada Jam is for those, like me, who want to listen to a station that totally celebrates the music that has come out of the country from decades past and is currently being released.
Speaking of current Canadian music, I have to admit, in the last few years I stopped paying attention to the Canadian music landscape. I’d hear about bands here and there, but never paid much attention. That started to bother me. There was a time when I could tell you the most popular Canadian bands, now, not so much.
So, for purely selfish reasons, I wanted to create a station and give myself a reason to get familiar with current Canadian music. My plan is to mix new and older songs as well as play lesser known tracks from popular artists.
I also plan on doing weekly shows that will highlight various decades, different locations, and different genres.
